OneNote, Class Notebook and Desktop Learning Tools updated for back-to-school season

A Surface Book resting on a table in a library.

As we head into the back-to-school season with you, we’re adding Flipgrid support to OneNote and updating our OneNote Desktop add-ins this month to integrate with even more school systems. We’re also happy to share that we’re improving the digital learning tools in your class with greater language support.

Flipgrid embed support in OneNote

OneNote now supports the embedding of Flipgrid videos.  Flipgrid is a video discussion community for the classroom that supercharges students’ voices.  Teachers add the topics, students respond with short videos, and everyone engages.  With our new OneNote support, grids, topics and videos automatically appear as soon as an educator or student posts a Flipgrid link into OneNote.

Class Notebook Add-in improvements for OneNote Desktop

Teachers from all over the world are creating and grading assignments in their OneNote Class Notebooks, with their work reflecting in the school Learning Management Systems (LMS) or Student Information Systems (SIS). With today’s OneNote Class Notebook add-in update, we are rolling out new LMS assignment and grade integration for additional partners: Infinite Campus, LiveGrades and EduPoint Synergy.

To see the full list of committed education partners, please visit our OneNote Education Partners page. On the same page, you’ll also find helpful training videos demonstrating how Class Notebooks integrate with the LMS or SIS from all of our partners.

Additions and improvements for the Class Notebook add-in, version 1.8.0, include:

  • Assignment and grade integration with LiveGrades

For details on how to attach your OneNote Class Notebook to a LMS or SIS and create assignments and grades, see our “Class Notebook add-in getting started guide.”

As always, please send any feedback you have directly to the team at OneNoteEDU@microsoft.com.

OneNote Desktop Learning Tools updates: More Syllables and Parts of Speech language support

The Syllables functionality in OneNote Desktop Learning Tools shows the breaks between syllables visually to enhance word recognition and decoding, while Parts of Speech supports writing instruction and grammar comprehension by identifying verbs, nouns and adjectives.

Additions and improvements for the OneNote Desktop Learning Tools add-in, version 1.5.0, include:

  • Added syllables functionality for four new languages: Danish, Dutch, Finnish and Portuguese.
  • Introduced nouns, verbs and adjectives (parts of speech) functionality for three new languages: French, German and Spanish.
  • Improved accuracy of nouns, verbs and adjectives for English.

Visit the Learning Tools language support page to see the current list of languages supported for the Immersive Reader.

You can download the latest version (v1.5.0) of the OneNote Desktop Learning Tools add-in on the Microsoft Learning Tools page, or get the Learning Tools at onenote.com/learningtools.
